Application for Admission to St. Monica School

Application packets are available by calling the school office at (415) 751-9564. Visitors are welcome to schedule a school tour with the Principal and Parent Ambassadors. Short tours are given on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. Visitors are also welcome and encouraged to attend an Open House event. Please see our Open House schedule for the 2007 - 2008 school year below.

Application Procedures

A student will be considered for admissions when the following items have been received:
  1. a $50 non-refundable application fee.
  2. a completed application form
  3. a copy of the child's birth certificate
  4. a copy of the child's Baptismal certificate (if applicable)
  5. a copy of the report card from the previous school or pre-school

Eligibility For Enrollment

  • A child must be five years of age by December 1st to be eligible for entrance into Kindergarten. It is advisable that children have pre-school experience before attending kindergarten.
  • A child must also be able to understand English.
  • At St. Monica School, the development or behavioral age of the child is a strong factor in considering acceptance. The developmental age is the age at which the child is functioning as a total person: physically, emotionally, intellectually, and socially. Intellectual development and chronological age are not necessarily guarantees of readiness.
  • A child may not be guarranteed acceptance into St. Monica School if the child is not academically performing at grade level. An assessment for applicants for all grades is required as part of the application process. Children applying for Grades 1-8 may not be accepted if the previous school indicates that there has been a continuing problem in the area of self-control or poor study habits.

Acceptance Policy

  1. Siblings of currently enrolled students
  2. Child is Catholic, and parents are registered parishoners of St. Monica Church
  3. Child is Catholic, and parents are registered in another Catholic parish
  4. Child is not Catholic

Admissions for Kindergarten

School Tours for Kindergarten Families
School Tours are held on Tuesdays at 10:00 a.m. Please call the school office to make an appointment or to request an application. After submitting the application packet, Kindergarten students will be invited to take a Kindergarten readiness assessment in January or February 2008, usually scheduled for a Saturday morning.

Admissions for Grades 1 - 8

School Tour & Visitation Days
Students applying for admission into grades 1 - 8 will have the opportunity to join the class for a typical day of school as part of the application process. The student will perform the regularly scheduled tasks during that day and will be assessed for academic readiness by the classroom teacher. Visitation days are scheduled by appointment after an application has been submitted. Transfer students are welcome at any time throughout the school year.
