Student Learning Expectations

The Student Learning Expectations are those skills, values and competencies that the school anticipates students to have gained by the time of graduation. The Expectations are introduced at an age-appropriate time, and are enhanced and reviewed throughout the student's time at St. Monica School.

St. Monica students are:

  • Spiritually Centered People who:

    • Demonstrate a foundation of the teachings of the Catholic Church and an appreciation of Scripture as the living Word of God.
    • Develop a relationship with God through personal and communal prayer.
    • Respect life and all of God's creation.
    • Make moral decisions which foster values of compassion, tolerance, and justice.
  • Academically Empowered Learners who:

    • Exhibit curiosity, enthusiasm, and self -motivation for lifelong learning
    • Demonstrate a broad academic foundation, which employs critical thinking skills.
    • Think creatively to recognize and solve problems.
    • Develop effective personal organization, research, study, and technology skills.
  • Effective Communicators who:

    • Articulate ideas clearly, creatively and effectively.
    • Listen respectfully and interact cooperatively.
    • Evaluate diverse viewpoints.
    • Utilize technology for gathering, processing, and sharing information.
  • Globally Conscious Citizens who:

    • Develop an appreciation for the unique individuality of all persons.
    • Make connections between themselves and family, local, national, and global communities.
    • Acknowledge the importance of diverse cultures.
    • Promote the sustainable interdependence of the human family and the natural world.
  • Well-Rounded Individuals who:

    • Develop one’s own unique God given talents.
    • Participate in the fine arts, drama, and music.
    • Demonstrate athletic skill and good sportsmanship.
    • Practice good personal health habits.
