In our continuing effort to increase exposure to STEM, our 4th,5th and 6th grade classes took a field trip to NASA’s Ames Research Center Field Trip. This interactive adventure began at the Wind Tunnel where scientists test spacecraft, airplanes and more to simulate flight. Wind Tunnels can test scale models as well as full-size vehicles. Students visited the area of the Center where they test rovers. Testing only takes place at night in a field made to simulate different planets. Students also viewed the many rocks at the Center. Some of the rocks they saw and learned about were from the moon as well as from different layers of the earth’s core. In addition, students got to see asteroids and meteorites. Their visit ended with an exploration of the NASA website. They learned the different features of the website and how to do research and explore, for example, planets.
