Tour & Open House PDF: 2017-2018 Schedule

We welcome families to apply for all grade levels, Kindergarten through 8th grade. Transfer students are welcome at any time during the school year. Families of all faiths are welcome. Please review the following information for completing an application:

Admissions Process

  1. Schedule a Parent Tour/Attend an Open House
    1. Recommended, but not necessary prior to submitting an application
    2. See the School Tours and Open House Schedule for visit dates
  2. Submit an application
    1. Applications will be considered when the following items have been provided:
      1. $50 non-refundable application fee
      2. A completed school application form
      3. A copy of the child's birth certificate
      4. A copy of the child's baptismal certificate (if applicable)
      5. A completed Preschool Recommendation Form (for incoming Kindergarten students) or copies of the child's report cards from the last two years from their previous school (for entering grades 1-8)
    2. Completed Kindergarten applications received by the 4th Friday in January will meet the deadline for priority Student Assessments. The Priority Student Assessments are held on the morning of the 4th Saturday in January. We do honor a rolling admissions process, however, and welcome student applications at any time. All applications received after the January assessment date will be scheduled per availability and on an as-needed basis.
  3. Schedule an assessment for your child
    1. Incoming Kindergarten:
      1. A child must be five years of age by September 1st in order to be eligible for entrance into the St. Monica School Kindergarten Class. After an application has been submitted, appointments for the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment will be scheduled.
    2. Incoming 1st – 8th grades:
      1. A child will be considered for acceptance into St. Monica if he or she is assessed as being able to perform academically at grade level. In order for this judgment to be fairly made, a half-day or full day (preferred) classroom visitation and testing for the prospective student is provided at every grade level. Following the visitation day, acceptance is based upon the assessment of the principal and respective teachers. An incoming 1st grader must be six years old by September 1st.

Tuition Assistance
We do not want a family to decline potential enrollment due to the cost of tuition, so we offer three forms of tuition assistance. Applications are available during the winter/spring for the upcoming school year and are renewed/reapplied for annually for the following school year.

  1. The BASIC Fund
    • An independent agency serving families who are entering a private school for the 1st time. Applications to the BASIC Fund will only be accepted at the time of admissions. For specific info, contact the BASIC Fund directly at: 415-986-5650 or
  2. SF Archdiocese Family Grants (administered by TADS)
    • Offered by the SF Archdiocese Department of Catholic Schools. Please inquire in the school office regarding the application process.
  3. St. Monica Parish and School Tuition Assistance
    • Serving our immediate community. Please inquire in the school office for specific information.

Eligibility for Enrollment
At St. Monica School, the development or behavioral age of the child is a strong factor in considering acceptance.  The developmental age is an assessment at which the child is functioning as a total person:  emotionally, intellectually, physically and socially. The prospective student must be able to understand and speak English proficiently. The priority for acceptance in each grade level is:

  1. Sibling of current student,
  2. Catholic student,
  3. Non-Catholic student

Non-Discrimination Policy
“St. Monica School, mindful of its mission to be witness to the love of Christ for all, admits students of any race, color, and national and/or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs and activities generally accorded to or make available to students at this school.  St. Monica School does not unlawfully discriminate on the basis of race, color, and national and/or ethnic origin, age, gender or disability in administration of educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and athletic and other school-administered programs.”

Please note: Transfer students are welcome at any time during the school year. Families of all faiths are welcome.
