About Saint Monica School

  • Established: In 1919, by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary.
  • Location: 5950 Geary Blvd @ 24th Avenue in the heart of the Richmond District
  • Enrollment: Co-ed, K-8, approximately 200 students.
  • Class Size: Average of 23 students per class. One classroom per grade.
  • School Hours: Regular hours 8:00 am to 3:00 pm; Wednesdays 8:00 am to 2:00 pm; Minimum days: 8:00 am to 12:30 pm. Students arrive beginning at 7:40 am.
  • Office Hours: 7:00 am to 3:30 pm
  • Our Facility: We are an up-to-date facility that boasts dedicated rooms for science, art, music, library, learning support, engineering/makerspace/media. We also have a gym, and dedicated Extended Care area. Saint Monica School has completed our seismic retrofit.
  • Technology: Our wireless network supports 1:1 devices for students (iPads for younger grades, Chromebooks for older students); flat screen monitors in classrooms; document cameras.
  • Diversity: Reflecting the rich diversity of the City, our student body is approximately: 39% white, 34% Asian, 25% multi-racial, 2% African American. 10% of our families identify as culturally Hispanic
  • Religious Affiliation: Approximately 55% of our students are Roman Catholic. Families of all faiths are warmly welcomed. Religion is taught daily in all grades with students not of the Catholic tradition welcome to share their experiences. Monthly, each class leads a liturgical service celebrated in Saint Monica Church.
  • Parent Involvement: Each family commits to 30 service hours per school year (15 hours for single parent families) and participation in two annual fundraisers. Parents have a wide range of opportunities to fulfill their hours during and/or after school hours.
  • Accreditations: Western Catholic Educational Association and Western Association of Schools & Colleges.
